Behind the Scenes at Overseas Exim: Packing a 40ft Container for Export
Overseas Exim | Tamil Nadu's Coco Peat Export Specialists
For most importers, a coco peat order begins as a quote and ends as a container arriving at their port. What happens in between — in the weeks of production, testing, packing, and documentation at our Tamil Nadu facility — is largely invisible to the buyer.
At Overseas Exim (www.overseasexim.com), we believe transparency builds trust. Today, we're opening the facility doors and taking you through exactly how a 40-foot container of coco peat gets packed, quality-checked, and shipped.
Step 1: Production Completion and Batch Assembly
Before any container is packed, the coco peat batch must complete production. For a standard 40ft container of 5kg blocks, this means approximately 4,800 blocks (24 tonnes). Each block has been:
- Triple-washed to target EC
- pH-tested and adjusted
- Machine-dried to 18-22% moisture
- Hydraulically compressed and wrapped in HDPE film
Step 2: Quality Check Before Loading
Our quality control team conducts a pre-dispatch inspection:
Visual check: Random sample of blocks inspected for colour consistency, compression integrity, and packaging condition. Weight check: Random sample weighed against the specified net weight. EC and pH verification: Final spot-check on the assembled batch.
The results feed into the Certificate of Analysis issued for the shipment.
Step 3: Container Positioning and Inspection
The 40-foot standard dry container (40ft x 8ft x 8.5ft, internal volume approximately 67 cubic metres) is inspected before loading:
- Structural integrity: No holes, damage, or rust
- Cleanliness: Interior free from previous cargo residue or moisture
- Door seal condition: Rubber seals intact to prevent moisture ingress during transit
Step 4: Loading — The Physics of Container Packing
